KUALA KANGSAR, June 21 (Bernama) -- The nation should see the status of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar here from a different viewpoint and it should not be equated with any other academic institutions, the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, said Saturday.

He said based on the historical roots of its inception, the identity of MCKK in terms of its form, teaching staff, curriculum and co-curriculum had its own uniqueness.

"MCKK should constantly be infused with new ideas for the college to be continued to be respected as a leading academic institution for secondary education in the country.

"I am fully aware of the importance of quality, the importance of the education standard in the college be upgraded into world standard so that the tradition of churning out credible national leaders can be continued and the capacity to produce outstanding national heroes at the international arena can be realised," he said at the MCKK speech day and prize presentation.

Raja Nazrin said new steps pioneered by MCKK should have continuity in efforts to fulfil the aspirations of the Malay Rulers who were deeply concerned with the education quality of the Malay children as had been envisaged more than a century ago.

"The then Malay Rulers fully realised how important it was for the Malays, as the heir to the soil, be strengthened with faith in God and enriched with knowledge so that the Malays will not be backward in their own land.

Raja Dr Nazrin said the Malays must be strong in all aspects to be brave, determined and courageous.

"How unfortunate it will be if the Malays become strangers in their own soil," he said.

To realise the vision of the Malay Rulers and to ensure the dream for the Malay race becomes a reality, he said, MCKK must maintain its excellent track record and preserve its tradition of distinction.

"And the Malays who have succeeded in life should not be proud and arrogant to the extent of forgetting their roots and origins and keep away from their people," he said.

Raja Dr Nazrin said the success of the present day Malays was due to the sacrifice, hardship and efforts of the previous generation.

He said the race that could sustain its civilization is the race that did severe itself from its historical roots but instead valued the sacrifices of the previous generation.

Likening MCKK as "a village of Malay intellectuals picked from among the intelligent" based on their academic achievements, he said, it was at the college that they were educated, guided and moulded to develop a quality human capital to serve the race and the nation.
