Malay College Youths Development Summit 2008 PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 July 2008

The Malay College Kuala Kangsar with the support from Ministry of Education will be holding an international summit. The 'Malay College - Youth Development Summit 2008' will be held at college ground from 24th to 31st August 2008 with both local and international participants. It is projected that the idea exchanged during the week-long summit will empower students to understand their leadership role in development of their respective community.

SUMMIT BACKGROUND

Introduction

As the regional economy in Asia rapidly evolves and expands at a phenomenal rate, it is highly essential that each nation grow in tandem with the rest of developing world. Active diplomacy must be fostered, and there is indeed no better way to do so than to nurture friendly relations and networking among student leaders who may possibly be, in the future, at the helm of their respective countries. Thus, internationalization programme such as students exchange programme, twinning programme, international forum and summit are hoped to be a high profile platform for elite student leaders from around Asia to interact, network, forge friendships and build bonds across borders, as well as exploring the challengers and opportunities that await them.

Aims

1.    To create conducive discussions and meaningful interaction between participants from different countries, giving the participants a wider perspective of worldwide issues.
2.    To ‘think global, act local’ – to enhance the participants’ character development by acting as a platform for them to carry out concrete community involvement activities enabling them to be valuable members of society.
3.    To allow participants to hone their leadership skills through the spectrum of dialogues, ample opportunities will be provided for participants to gain experience from, and exposure to various leadership fields.
4.    To develop new networks because it is a good platform for student leaders to meet, interact and explore the challenges and opportunities for young people in Asia.

MCKK Students as Young Leaders

• Young leaders of the future should be initiated into the world of politics and encouraged to be politically aware of developments worldwide. Being educated on regional and international political issues will allow one to be capable of forging strong diplomatic ties.

• A leader must strive to be socially aware and able to empathize with others. These are basic virtues that complete an individual’s holistic development.

• As society modernizes, human relations may run the risk of degeneration with the prevalent use of automated technology; communication and social skills should thus be further emphasized upon for leadership to be effective.

The boundaries for each individual are truly endless. With this notion in mind, the Internationalization Programme in MCKK strive to empower the young leaders with the tenacity and confidence to go beyond what they had thought they could possibly achieve. ‘Di sini pemimpin di lahirkan’ – we come out with the first ever in Malaysia ‘Malay College Youths Development Summit 2008’

Congratulation. A good step by Koleq to follow Raja Nazrin advice. As Koleq should enhance its scope world widely, hosting such this kind of ambassador program will opening the minds of Koleq student, make them think outrageous and will build their confidence in communicating directly with their friends among Asia. I do expect that the main thing of this program will not totally focusing on leadership, but to show the ability that Koleq can host the international program and showing that we are still number one in this country, and always be a founder in making start on everything since a long time ago.
